Development & Aid
We work with government and NGO development and aid programmes worldwide, mapping metrics such as population distribution, crop growth and types, water sources and changes to terrain.
Since 2009, Alcis has worked closely with the Afghan and UK Governments to produce target eradication maps showing the real extent of the problem of poppy farming in the Central Helmand province of Afghanistan.
Alcis provided support to programme design, data acquisition and analysis along with development of key data as part of one of the most innovative and best integrated development DfID initiatives in Afghanistan.
Uruzgan Development Programme
We provided consulting services for AusAID on how to apply GIS techniques to make more informed programme decisions in Uruzgan, Afghanistan.
Lights at Night
We studied sources of stable light over an 18 year period and using a large number of settlements as a sample, we visualised the expansion and contraction of stable light as a vital proxy for measuring progress in the country.
This report evaluates the impact that the USAID funded IDEA-NEW project had on livelihoods and opium cultivation in the province of Nangarhar in eastern Afghanistan. The evaluation was managed by David Mansfield in partnership with Alcis and OSDR. It draws together detailed evidence gathered through the use of remote sensing and GIS analysis and in-depth field work, including in some of most challenging parts of the southern belt of Nangarhar bordering Pakistan.
