Education Management Information System (EMIS)
We designed and implemented a system to survey and monitor at regional level. We also trained local operators to use the system, developing the Ministry of Education's own capacity going forward.
Since 1979, consecutive wars have destroyed Afghanistans education system, with only 650 schools functioning throughout the country during the mid 1990s.
Despite major financial donations, the Ministry of Education was unable to deliver and monitor curricula and school programs until it knew which schools were operating and how many children were, or could be, educated.
The MoE desperately needed to improve the credibility of the educational system starting with the ability to assess the status quo and monitor and report on progress.
