Route planning

We planned an aerial survey to capture high resolution stereoscopic imagery. This data enabled the construction of accurate terrain models and the identification of settlements. Using a multi criteria selection process, route options that avoided the restricted areas and where the general trend of the route was downhill were generated.

A new pipeline was being planned. The route: from the extraction point to a refinery 100km away in a remote area. With the terrain undulating, and settlements and protected forests between the two installations, a deep understanding of the environment was needed.

The client wanted to understand the route, that avoids areas where there are restrictions on construction and that is not within 5km of habitation and which makes best use of the natural slope of the ground to reduce the need for pumping stations.

Working with local partners, Alcis planned an aerial survey to capture high resolution stereoscopic imagery. This data enabled the construction of accurate terrain models and the identification of settlements.
